Srideviji, you were too good in MASTERJI!

K Bhagyaraj's double meaning (vulgarity) hit 'Mundannai Mudichchu' (in Tamil) turned out to be 'Masterji' in Hindi. Rajesh Khanna plays a village school teacher, who teaches small children. He too has an infant (his wife has passed away). Sridevi, plays Radha the naughty village belle with her mischievous behavior. She falls in love with Masterji. The school children (four of them, who are Sridevi's friends) tell a lie and in a rare consequence help Sridevi get stubbornly married to Masterji. But he does not even reciprocate her feelings and desires. He stays away from her, also does not let his child to be with her. But our Devi knows how to win him! Anita Raj also plays an important role who teaches older men in an lusty way in the same village. The rest of the starcast were all funny (kader khan, asrani, aruna irani, shakti kapoor). K Raghavendra Rao directed the Hindi version, which was directed by K Bhagyaraj in the original.
Although Urvashi in Tamil did a good job, Sridevi with her mannerisms was simbly wonderful. No one else could have carried this role that Devi has carried. Infact, the Kannada version had Farheen (Jaan Tere Naam fame), and she too was raved. But nothing to match Sridevi.
The songs were all sexierly picturised on Sridevi. Can anyone forget the song: Ankhein to kholo swami... jawaani dekho swaami!

Sundeep Malani
Sridevi Fan!
