Kanchan Mahalaxmi (Sridevi) is a saleslady, who sells Sarees and garments. She does this on her bicycle, and goes around from village to village, and community to community, and does this for a living, in order to support her family. One day, during one of her sales-travels, she meets with Manoj Kumar (Krishna) who is a farmer. After a few quarrels and misunderstandings, both end up falling in love with each other, and want to get married. Before Kanchan could inform her family about this alliance, she finds out that her dad has "sold" her to a wealthy man for a few thousand rupees. Krishna comes to the rescue and saves her from the clutches of the greedy dad and the wealthy villain. K Bapaiah directed this film 'Jayam Manade' in Telugu in 1986 which got dubbed in Hindi as 'Waqt Ka Shahenshah'. Original music of Chakravarthy was redone in Hindi by Laxmikanth Pyarelal, as the songs in Telugu were successful and the sound track got damaged, hence the producers signed LP to redo the songs to get a Hindi feeling. Unfortunately, the music and the film bombed in Hindi.
