Kamal Hassan, Sridevi and Sripriya formed the triangular love story for a Tamil film that was released in 1982 titled 'Vazhvey Maayam'. The film was huge successful which had good performances by all the three actors. It has been dubbed to Hindi with the title 'Chandramukhi Devdas'. Well, the other fact is that - the same film was remade in Hindi with Jeetendra, Reena Roy and Rekha playing the three characters (as mentioned above) in 'Prem Tapasya', and the Hindi version also did good business. The film is about Raja (Kamal) who is a die hard romantic, hopelessly in love with Devi. Trying to woo Sridevis heart Raja plays many a tricks in vain. Devi doubts Rajas intentions and insults him for pursuing her. Ultimately love prevails when Devi realizes the truth. Their marriage is fixed and preparations are underway when fate intervenes. Suddenly Raja starts avoiding Devi and deliberately indulges in wine and other women and with the help of a philosophical daasi,Radha (Sripriya) dramatizes a situation for Devi to hate him. Devi confronts them with the intention of winning Raja forever. Raja insults Devi and under advice from family and friends Devi marries another man. And at the end Devi goes to meet Kamal, when she sees him breathing his last (as he is suffering from cancer) and before he dies, he marries Sripriya and she voluntarily agrees to be his widow. The film had beautiful songs composed by Gangai Amaran and it was directed by R. Krishnamoorthy.
