Sridevi was the perfect CHANDNI...!

Sridevi was the perfect choice for this Yash Chopra musical, which he was otherwise planning to do with his other favorite, Rekha. At the last hour Yash changed his mind and narrated it to Devi and the rest is History.
Rishi and Devi (playing the title role of Chandni) after singing a couple of romantic songs rendered by Suresh Wadkar, Lata Mangeshkar, Pamela Chopra and tuned by Shiv Hari finally part ways. The reason: Rishi becomes paralyzed and his mother (Sushma Seth) and sister (Beena) are against Sridevi and blame her for the accident. Sridevi forgets her bubbly past in Delhi and rediscovers herself in Mumbai to work in an company as an secretary to Vinod Khanna, who already has lost his love (Juhi Chawla). Waheeda Rehman, Vinod's mother likes Sri and so slowly Vinod starts loving her. He proposes, Rishi enters fully recovered with support from his brother in law (Anupam Kher). Vinod and Rishi meet at a holiday spot, become friends and sing (tu Mujhe suna, main tujhe sunao apni prem kahani) not revealing each other about Chandni. Sri gets to know. She is confused. She makes up her mind. Finally, she ends up with her hero, who had once sung for her - Chandni, tu meri Chandni. She sings back - Chandni, Main teri Chandni.

The film was a musical hit, with all songs being favorite - the song Mere Hathon Main Nau Nau Churiyan Hai became the must at all sangeet / wedding ceremonies.. Other song that hit big time was - Tere Mere Honton Pe, meete meete geeth mitwa, Main Sasural Nahi Jaoongi and the Sridevi giving playback to her title song - Chandni Teri Chandni.
She was nominated for the Best Actress Filmfare Award but she lost it to herself for playing twins in Chaalbaaz.
