After the classical dance based love story Jaag Utha Insaan, Mithun and Sridevi make a comeback of sorts with their pair having signed three films together. Of which one is Watan Ke Rakhwale. Sridevi plays Radha, who lives a wealthy lifestyle with her dad. A sudden death of her dad and her uncle arranges for a marriage of hers with one distant relative. And at the nth hour, Mithun comes to the scene and says that he is already married to Sridevi with proofs of the wedding. Sri is confused, she claims that she has never met him in his life, forget about the marriage. Forcibly by law (as the proof says) Sri has to be with Mithun in the midst of his elder brother Sunil Dutt and sister in law Mousami Chatterjee. And then the story takes a turn when Sri actually falls in love with Mithun and the suspense is revealed. While Sunil Dutt plays a lawyer, Mithun is a police officer. A film with violence, law breaker and law taker. The film directed by T Rama Rao also had Shakti Kapoor, Kader Khan, Divya Rana and Baby Guddu for company.
