This is one of Sri's best performances from her earlier Hindi film career. She and Jaya play sisters, who are more concerned and caring for each other. Jeetendra steps into their lives (And no, although he shares both of them, he is a single Jeetu here - Not a double role). Sri sacrifices her love and marries Aaaooo... Shakti Kapoor. (Shakti is still remembered for his dialogue delivery.. Aaaooo... Lalitha.. from this film).
Sri gives birth to Jeetu's son and Jaya much later in the climax comes to know her younger sis's sacrificing act. A super hit film, Tohfa had some hit songs. While 'Ek Aankh Maroon toh parda hat jaye' was a masti bara song, 'Tohfa, Tohfa' and 'Gori tere ang ang main' were wonderfully tuned and beautifully picturised with a collection of sarees and dozens of steel madkaas.
